The genus Pseudocerastes (Boulenger, 1896) is one of the eight genera of vipers of the Viperidae family in Iran, which are noted for their deadly venom and structures such as false tails and horns. This genus is distributed from northeast Africa to the east, in the countries of Jordan, Iraq, northern Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan and an isolated population in northern Oman. There are three species of this genus, according to the latest sources, two species, P. persicus and P. urarachnoides, live in Iran. P. urarachnoides is a unique species in terms of the method of hunting prey using the spider structure of the tail terminal. In addition, it is a rare species in terms of camouflage. Due to the lack of a comprehensive review based on updated research, the upcoming research has investigated the taxonomy, biogeography, venom system, molecular and evolutionary research, morphology and biology of Pseudocerastes species.
